Super Mario Marathon Empty
PostSubject: Super Mario Marathon   Super Mario Marathon EmptyMon Jul 13, 2009 8:46 am

That's right, a marathon to become Mario. Okay, actually, that's not correct, it's a marathon of playing through several Mario games continuously without any sleep. Right now, they are going strong at over 58 hours and 30 minutes in the Super Mario Galaxy world.

Now, this isn't just about how they are proving that gamers really have no life and can spend that much time playing without screwing up their life. There's a better reason over just the recognition that is sure to follow in this. They are doing this to raise money for Child's Play.

If you do not know what Child's Play is, it is an organization that helps to improve a child's life by bringing toys and games to over 40 hospitals across the world. While one could argue there are better things one could donate money on, such as cancer and AIDS research; however, I feel that the enjoyment of a child is also an important thing as well. If you have ever been in a hospital for a night or even days, you know the pain, annoyances, and possibly even fear that comes with being there; this especially pertains to kids.

I'm the type who tries to donate money when he can, which is hard when you don't have a job (go being 18 and the economy,) and this is also one of those things I would try to donate for. So if you can, I'll leave it to your moral/ethical system to if you want to donate. If not anything, just see how long it'll take till these guys can finish their run through all of the games or how much they can gain in the end: right now a little over $19,000.

I agree with you..I think its would be better to send the money to people who really need it. But the children are also important. I'm just saying that why use the money on someone who doesn't really need it?

Wait, we have donations for people that don't need it? Okay, maybe for governors, politicians, and presidents, but what other donations are like that?

I'm just say the most of the money should go to people who really need it...not just all on toys.

I know, but there are other foundations set up for that. As I said, one can argue either way on it and I don't feel like going back and forth on the issue. However, I know and have seen the fear in children when they are in hospitals; hearing them cry from down the hallway and other things. Toys and games help to lessen this fear and give them some enjoyment to help get their minds off of the pain. This is meant for that because even with advancements in medicine and such, it's hard to take that fear away from being in a hospital for days and the pain that comes with the poking and prodding.
