Video Games Turned into Movies Empty
PostSubject: Video Games Turned into Movies   Video Games Turned into Movies EmptyMon Jul 13, 2009 9:39 am

Ok so I was working on the forum when a thought came to me. What if they made a classic video game into a movie? I mean it's not often that a game gets made into a movie. Take spyro for example, what if someone was to make a movie about spryo. What would it be like? Would it stick to the story of the game? and who the hell would watch it? In other words why aren't hit games make into Movies. Heres another Example
what if Gears Of War was made into a movie. Would you watch it? and what would this "movie" be like. All I'm saying is that sometimes some video games deserve a Good Movie to Make it better.

Video Games Turned into Movies Empty
PostSubject: Re: Video Games Turned into Movies   Video Games Turned into Movies EmptyMon Jul 13, 2009 10:23 am

The problem always with trying to make a movie from a video game relates to several factors.

First is the time constraint. Video games lasts for several hours, possibly even up to 100 hours for certain games; though the long time isn't always related to the story. Movies usually lasts up to 3-4 hours nowadays.

Second is the writers. Most of the time, not always, the writers of the movie isn't the same as those who write the game. In some instances, there's a slight collaboration between the movie writer/director and the game writer/director. However, most of the time it's either a fan of the original game or, more likely, it's someone who has never played the game or just have heard about it.

Third is the visuals of the movie. Video games are animated and don't have to confine to the realm of realism in them. Movies, for some odd reason, seem to want to use real actors more often than animations.

Forth is that the game has set in actors already. What happens when you transition a game to film, which stated above usually involves real actors, is you lose the original voice actor who gave life to the character. Sometimes the actor can give the character the same life as the original. This sometimes even happens when it is in animations, which makes no sense to me. The originals should be brought back for these if at all possible they can.

That's why I like the ideas of animated mini-series for games.

However, I must say there have been movies based on popular video games and seem to a lot now. There's been two live-action street fighter movies, a couple anime movies (I believe), and a few anime series of it; there's the Mortal Kombat movies; Dead or Alive movie; Final Fantasy 7 CGI film, original Final Fantasy anime and CGI film; and several others are in the works or have failed: like Bloodrayne. I mean, they are coming out with Asteroids the movie, that's a really classic game. I almost expect a Pong movie soon.

I agree with you not many movies that were once games are as successful as the game its self. Take the newest Street Fighter movie for example. It just plain sucked...I was mad that I had wasted my time watching it.

I never watched it... I knew that I wouldn't like it and it wouldn't be good. Though the same can be said about movies to games. Though I'm glad to say, the Ghostbusters video game was actually good. Mainly because it had the original actors and, I think, the same writers: at least one.

While that is true..the ghost busters game was good some movie to games aren't so good like the wanted game for example. I didn't really feel for it...and it wasn't really anything like the movie plus you could rarely shoot in the game. Also some things should never be turned in a live action movie. Like the DBZ evolution movie...bottom line it give it two thumbs down.

Well, DBZ was an anime first. Also, DBZ Evolution is planning on being remade and also into a trilogy. I could post that article I did if you want to know more about it: in it's rightful place in a new thread.

Yea I would like that..to see whats its about.

I'm just saying that some thins shouldn't be messed with. Sure DBZ was first a anime abut it doesn't mean that it should be turned in to live action movie. I mean how would you feel if they turned sonic into a live action movie?
